Fall Math Activities

🍂 •  H A P P Y • F A L L • Y A ‘ L L • 🍂

The weather is getting cooler, the leaves are starting to change colors, and the days are getting shorter. Most teachers and students have went back to school, watching football on the weekend is back in full swing, and fall activities are beginning.

As we kick off the fall season, that also means fall testing and fall break is coming. To help make things a bit easier for our teachers, I have made these fun and engaging, no prep, fall math activities! I personally believe these are great for 6th and 7th grade, but could also be used to enrich 5th graders or be used with lower 8th graders.

I used these last week with my 6th grade students and they LOVED them! At the end of our class they were begging me to let them take the activities home to work on over the weekend! We had been doing our state testing Monday-Thursday and there were a few students still finishing up on Friday. I knew I needed an activity that would be relatively quiet for those still testing, but also something my students could do with minimal help. Although it would have been easier just to let the ones who were finished with testing play math games on the computer, I personally wanted something that was fun and engaging, and didn’t involve staring at a computer screen for any longer than they already had been!

Ways to use these activities:

  • Emergency Sub Plans - If you don’t have a sub binder, check out this one!

  • Whole Group

  • Small Group

  • Partner Work/Building Team Work

  • Early Finisher

  • Fun Friday

  • Celebrate the End of Fall Testing (this was my choice)

Included Activities:

Cross Number Puzzle
If you’re not quite sure what a Cross Number Puzzle is, just imagine a crossword puzzle. In a crossword puzzle, you are given a short phrase and from that phrase you are expected to come up with a word that matches that phrase and has the same number of letters that the box shows. Well, a cross number puzzle is very similar. You are given an equation and your answer needs to match the specific number of boxes provided.

With this activity you will receive one complete cross number puzzle, an answer key, and a blank template so that student can make their own!

Mystery Math
The mystery math might have been one of the favorites between my 6th grade classes. With the mystery math, there are 26 symbols that match up with a letter and number. The students need to decode the words based on the symbols, and then add all of the symbols points up.

This activity comes with two pages of words to decode, along with answer keys, and a blank template so that students can create their own mystery words.

Color By Number
The color by number fall math activity is pretty straight forward. There is a large pumpkin split many different ways, with an equation in each of the boxes. The students will solve the equations and then color the box the designated color.

This activity comes with one complete color by number activity and answer key, along with three blank templates so that your students can create their own color by number activities!
