Christmas Math Activity

Holiday Teacher Checklist:

  • You’re done with winter testing

  • Your students are crazy

  • You’re burnt out

  • You have a short week and you need to fill it with something fun and engaging

Look no further!

This Christmas Scavenger Hunt is based upon 3rd-5th grade math standards, but can definitely be used to enrich younger students or reach struggling students. Personally, this Christmas math activity was just right for my 6th graders and worked great for my 7th-grade math intervention class.

So what is it?

This NO PREP Christmas math activity includes 10 task cards and the task of this activity is that it is the night before Christmas and all of Santa's reindeer went missing. You will work with Ralph the elf to follow the math clues to help find Santa's reindeer. This holiday math activity will promote communication, cooperation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Each math task card has a different type of math word problems and students need to solve the problem to move onto the next card. Each answer is assigned a specific word to the puzzle, which helps Santa find his reindeer.

How do I teach this?

There are many ways of how to use this Christmas scavenger hunt activity in your classroom:

  • One task card per day leading up to Christmas

  • As a daily warm-up

  • In a small group

  • As a whole group

  • As an early finisher activity

If doing all of the Christmas math activity task cards in one day, plan on about 45 minutes for students to work through the activity. If doing this with only one card per day, plan for about 5 minutes per day.

Where can I find this activity?
